Context
Appknowledged is a marketplace for the Knack community — people who build apps on the Knack no-code platform. Builders sell what they know as code snippets and video tutorials.
The Challenge
Users needed to sell their own work and get paid for it. That meant a real marketplace: seller accounts, checkout, payouts, and paid code and video delivered only to the people who bought it.
The Objective
A marketplace where anyone can list snippets and tutorials and be paid directly, with the platform handling checkout, payouts and delivery.
The Approach
Every seller gets their own Stripe Connect account, so buyers pay through the marketplace and sellers are paid out directly. The platform delivers what was bought itself — code in the browser, video through a custom HTTP streaming pipeline on AWS — instead of handing out files.
The Build
A Next.js application with PostgreSQL and NextAuth for accounts, hosted on Heroku. Code assets (HTML, CSS, JS) are stored in PostgreSQL; images and other assets upload to S3 through signed URLs. Video is processed by MediaConvert and streamed over HTTP through CloudFront. Stripe Connect runs checkout, splits each payment to partner accounts and pays sellers out.
